Welcome
Dannsa House, meaning ‘house of retreat,’ is a five bedroom modern detached house located in East Markham, historically also known as Great Markham, which is a small village and civil parish near Tuxford, Nottinghamshire. It lies about eight km South of Retford and is sandwiched between the East Coast Main Line (to the East), the A1 to the West and A57 to the North. The location of the house benefits from local country walks and parks in the village. Clumber Park, Sherwood Forest, nature reserves, Creswell Craggs as well as local river walks and other nature walks are just a short drive away.
Our approach
At Dannsa House we encourage and promote the people we support living life to its fullest, empowering them to recognise themselves as individuals and promoting independence. We are dedicated to providing a happy and settled home environment for each person in a comfortable atmosphere that promotes dignity and respect, independence, privacy, fulfilment, equality and choice, whilst ensuring an individual is provided the up most respect in a diverse manner.
We pride ourselves in offering a safe space for individuals to live in, relax in, and promote daily living skills and independence and recognising each person as an individual supporting their individual needs. As a service we take great pride in working hard to build positive, person-centred relationships with all of our individuals and their families and friends to ensure each person’s needs are catered for to support them with being at the heart of their decisions for their own lives.
Independence
Promoting individuals to make their own choices and receiving support with this is very important to our staff team, whilst ensuring each person receives the highest standards of care. Each person participates in creating their own activity planner which is person-centred on their likes and dislikes.
Daily life
The high staffing levels that we provide ensures the people we support are able to partake in as many activities as possible such as cinema trips, bowling and holidays if they wish to do so. This enables individuals to become an integral part of both the local and wider community as well as promoting independence skills.
The house is situated central to Lincoln, Retford, Ollerton and Mansfield, which are all within a 20-minute drive from the home and is easily accessed through public transportation. There are various places of interest and plenty for young adults to get involved catering to an individual’s personality, likes and hobbies. These include trampoline parks, leisure centres, horse-riding, museums and libraries. Mansfield offers activities for young people to get involved in such as hydrotherapy sessions and horse-riding lessons which are ‘autism friendly’. Each individual has access to person-centred activities, which are tailored around their needs and support required.
Accommodation
The home offers a large kitchen dining area which is ideal for young adults to develop their living and independence skills preparing meals. The kitchen is separate from the living areas which includes a lounge, conservatory and dining room fitted with sofas and televisions, person centred and tailored around the individuals we support.
Each bedroom is en suite, situated across first and second floors, which offer views out of the windows to fields and countryside. The house has a large fenced back garden which has a patio area fitted with garden furniture and a BBQ to enjoy in the summer months. It also has an area of grass for outdoor activities which our young adults engage with. The garden is fenced off from surrounding horses’ fields.
Staff & Therapeutic Services
Staffing at Dannsa House is of an extremely high standard. All staff receive regular training that specialises in each person’ individual needs and requirements and are trained to NVQ level 2/3 in Health and Social Care. All staff receive a six-week induction with the help from a mentor to ensure the standard of care we provide is consistent throughout. Staff attend training monthly to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to support our individuals.
