We aim to empower and support our young adults to reach and develop their potential as individuals and, by encouraging them to be as independent as possible, they gain a sense of ownership and belonging within a homely, safe environment.

There are a wide variety of interesting places nearby for young adults to enjoy. These include trampoline parks, leisure centres, horse-riding, museums and libraries. Mansfield offers activities for young adults to get involved in such as hydrotherapy sessions, which are ‘autism friendly’. Everyone we support has access to person-centred activities, which are tailored around their needs and support required.

Some of the young adults also attend our college three days each week, where each individual works with animals and learns skills in gardening and animal husbandry. Those we support take part in cooking as well at college to learn how to make meals independently as well as working on their numeracy and literacy.

The home has a range of facilities ideal for helping young adults to develop their skills for living and independence, such as a large kitchen for preparing meals. The kitchen is separate from the living areas, where there are two lounges, fitted with sofas and televisions, a large dining room with two tables, and a summerhouse that can provide an extra environment out of the main house if required. Each of the six bedrooms is en suite, situated across first and second floors, and have views across the fields and countryside. Each individual is given the opportunity to personalise their bedroom, based on their personal interests. The house has a large fenced back garden which has a patio area fitted with garden furniture and a BBQ to enjoy in the summer months.

Our dedicated staff receive regular training that is aligned to our young adult’s needs, and all undergo a six-week induction with a mentor to ensure the standard of care is consistent. Staff will attend MEAS training as part of their induction, where they will learn how to support our individuals by understanding their needs and gaining a knowledge of how to apply positive behaviour support, improving the quality of life and safeguarding our young adults. All staff undergo an enhanced DBS check before they start at the service along with a two-stage interview to ensure they are the right individuals to maintain and enhance standards. The young adults we support take part in the recruitment process to ensure they are being supported by individuals they would be compatible with.

Staff are focused on helping the individuals achieve the best quality of life. This could be from developing and embedding skill sets or working towards building relationships that could be new or may have broken down previously. These are often reviewed and progressed to ensure we strive for excellence throughout.

Within the home we offer in-house therapeutic sessions, which are available to all indivduals. These include in house speech and language therapists, in-house music therapy, aromatherapy, in-house messy/sensory play and sporting activities, which are provided within our garden grounds.
