Welcome
Suillean is in a beautiful rural location with good transport links for our individuals to utilise, including a train station. Heckington boasts many amenities and ensures our individuals have everything they need close at hand. There is a grocery shop, post office, pharmacy and a butcher along with hairdressers, barbers, hardware store, a pub and various takeaways. There is also a doctor’s surgery. Heckington Show is a huge annual event and the village boasts the only eight sail fully working windmill in the country.
Boston, Lincoln and Newark are also within the surrounding area and are easy to get to by road, bus or train, all of which offer a wide range of activities and experiences for the people we support.
Our approach
At Suillean House we are passionate about the people we support living as fulfilled a life as possible. We strive to ensure that our individuals have equal opportunities and we provide person-centred care in a non-judgemental manner.
We pride ourselves on our high standards in health and safety and protecting our individuals and staff at all times. Suillean has an in-house health and safety representative who works alongside the health and safety team.
Independence
An important feature of everyday life is to be able to make choices, however small. Our adults are encouraged and helped to decide what to wear, eat, etc, whatever their personal level of ability. Help and encouragement is given to all so that they may develop skills and the competence to perform useful and meaningful activities, thus leading to greater choice and independence.
We constantly monitor the quality of the service offered to our adults here at Suillean House so that we can reach, maintain and improve upon the standards laid down by regulatory authorities and to ensure that they are provided with the opportunity to lead as independent a lifestyle as possible.
Daily life
Our individuals participate as fully as possible in the day-to-day running of their home. With the help of Residential Support Workers they are supported to adhere to a budget, shop, cook, and do their share of the housework.
A variety of activities are on offer at Suillean and people are encouraged to also find individual interests. Together with our staff, the people we support are responsible for utilising their leisure time in the best way possible, for example short and long walks combined with a picnic in some of the local parks, full days exploring cities and towns with particular attractions, visits to the cinema and local leisure facilities.
Accommodation
The house is set off the road as you enter the village and has a large garden which contains various fruit trees and two lovely weeping willows as you turn into the drive way.
It has nine bedrooms, eight with en suite facilities and one with a private bathroom. Three of the bedrooms are on the ground floor. All bedrooms are decorated and furnished according to individual tastes and desires, promoting individuality and personal space. The shared living space within the home consists of two large lounges/sitting rooms where the people we support can choose to relax or take part in various in-house activities.
Suillean also boasts a large kitchen for meal preparation and cooking activities. Individuals at Suillean are encouraged to be fully involved in their meal planning and staff promote healthy living and lifestyle choices.
