Welcome
Tigh Lenach, which means “house in the woods”, is very close to the London borough of Croydon, and is also close to the Surrey and Kent countryside, offering a wealth of exciting opportunities. There are excellent transport links to central London and the surrounding areas with buses, trains and trams within easy reach.
Croydon is home to Croydon University Hospital, where there is a community learning disability team which supports our young people. The home benefits from very strong links with the local GP and various NHS services to promote a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach to those within our care.
Our approach
At Tigh Lenach we promote and encourage the people we support in living life to its fullest. We believe everyone should be encouraged and empowered to recognise themselves as individuals and promote their everyday life choices, whilst ensuring that they are cared for to the highest of standards.
The high staff support ratio at Tigh Lenach ensures that people are effectively supported in being an integral part of both their local and wider communities whilst also ensuring the health and safety for all on our site. All staff are fully aware of safeguarding and whistleblowing procedures, having competency assessments and updates throughout the year.
Independence
We encourage our individuals to be as independent as possible by promoting ownership of the home and we pride ourselves on providing a friendly, relaxed and calm atmosphere that ensures the people we support feel safe, respected and cared for at all times.
Daily life
The home has a sensory room and an art therapy room to provide the people we support with more choice throughout their day. The vast outdoor area allows for many outdoor activities and gatherings for special occasions. We also have easy access to numerous shopping centres and leisure facilities such as bowling, cinemas, museums, restaurants and swimming pools.
Accommodation
Tigh Lenach is a six bedroom property and all rooms are single occupancy and offer en suite facilities. The property benefits from a large enclosed garden leading down to picturesque woodland. There are two bedrooms on the ground floor with the remaining bedrooms being on the first floor. All bedrooms are decorated according to individual tastes and preferences, promoting individuality and a personal space for each person we support.
On the ground floor there are two large lounges and two smaller, quieter lounges providing a great deal of space for those we support within the house. There is also a large shared kitchen and dining room which gives space for individuals to be supported with their meal preparation and various kitchen activities. We have a communal laundry room in which residents are supported to carry out their own washing and ironing with support as needed.
Staff & Therapeutic Services
Staffing at Tigh Lenach is of a very high standard with all staff who join requiring a DBS, completion of a six-week induction programme, passing a six-month probationary period and completing all relevant training required of them. This enables them to gain a wealth of knowledge whilst learning about the individuals’ needs and how to advocate effectively for the young people we support.
The team are expected to further their knowledge by completing the Care Certificate, in line with legislative requirements, to learn about all aspects of care including a detailed look into safeguarding, and equality and diversity. All staff are encouraged to develop their learning to achieve a Level 2 and Level 3 diploma in Health and Social Care, making them a very knowledgeable and competent staff team.
The people we support at Tigh Lenach have access to a variety of different Therapeutic Services such as aromatherapy, speech and language therapy, music therapy and occupational therapy. See more information on our Therapeutic Services here.
